Jay Rock Drops “Ambition (Freestyle)”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Jay Rock always kills so-called freestyles.

With Kendrick Lamar’s departure from TDE, Jay Rock could potentially become the label’s primary artist. While Jay is no Kendrick artistically, he consistently delivers quality music. That said, it’s been an absurd five years since his last project, but I believe he’s currently working on something new. In the meantime, Jay has dropped a fresh single titled “Ambition (Freestyle).”

“Ambition (Freestyle)” is short but sweet. While the song is less than two minutes long, Jay Rock accomplishes a lot in it. Not only does he remind us how good he is at sounding motivational and gritty, but he also reminds us that his flows are still some of the steadiest in the game. I’m not going to lie, though: the main thing I love about this song is the production. The soulful beat with a bit of a knock definitely tickled my fancy.

The streets need a new Jay Rock album. Someone drag his ass to the studio, please.
