Coi Leray seems poised to conquer the world; she just needs to seize the opportunity. While that might seem straightforward for some, it can be a bit challenging for someone as multifaceted as her to determine the best path to dominate. Despite enjoying several of her rap tracks from the past, I believe there’s a pop lane waiting for her to explore. She begins to experiment with the genre in her latest single, “Lemon Cars.”
In “Lemon Cars,” Coi Leray fires more shots than Donte Divencinzio. She delves into the world of heavy drinking, exploring its effects on her as a woman. This includes discovering her true self, embracing life’s pleasures, and perhaps even hitting the stripper pole when she shouldn’t. Unlike Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools,” it’s unclear whether this track is meant to celebrate or criticize excessive shot-taking.
I’m really digging the stylistic vibe of “Lemon Cars.” The track rides on an uptempo, easygoing alternative pop beat by Mike WILL Made-It that I absolutely love. Coi Leray brings in a repetitive sound on the hook, but for the most part, she seems to go through the motions, occasionally coming across as a bit out of it. I mean, shots are supposed to f**k you up, right?
