This week’s album ratings feature one of YSL’s finest, a Texan dynamo, and a cool kid from the UK.
Lil Gotit – Shut The Door, Nobody Listening
(C)
Calling your album “Shut The Door, Nobody Listening” is wild.
This album is on some prime slime s**t. It actually sounds like a project that was created in 2018. Shut The Door, Nobody Listening features booming trap beats (Although you do get a surprising Jersey Club beat in “10 Freaky Girls”), strong trap subject matters (Gotit talks about dripping, finessing women, and doing some illegal s**t), and very slick rap deliveries. Though I do wish Gotit sounded a little more enthusiastic throughout the project (I expected wilder deliveries), it’s still a vibe.
Favorite Songs: “10 Freaky Girls,” Love me Again – Remix,” & “A Lot of Shit Changed.”
Sauce Walka – Saucefather 2
(C+)
It’s hard to believe that someone so loud can be underrated, but that’s what I think Sauce Walka is.
Do you know what SauceFather 2 taught me? That Sauce Walka can do everything your favorite rapper can do. Throughout the album, you get entertaining beats full of bass and club vibes, all types of rap styles, some pretty solid melodies, Texas elements (Like tons of screwed-n-chopped moments), and the same type of s**t, which revolves around pimpin, making money, and slapping negroes, that your favorite rappers talk about. I was entertained listening to this project (BTW: It also features good guest appearances, such as Travis Scott, Lil Yachty, Bossman Dlow, and more).
Favorite tracks: “Money Counter,” “5th Ward” & “Rules.”
Headie One – The Last One
(B)
You know, sometimes you just have to acknowledge a guy’s coolness. Bro, Headie One is one cool dude. He drops slick lines effortlessly and never loses his composure. It’s his cool demeanor that really makes The Last One thrive.
I’m just as tired of drill music as anyone, but there are artists who make it exciting again, like Headie One. Throughout The Last One, you get plenty of drill beats, and Headie effortlessly slays them with his super chill tone, carefree lyrics, and clever punchlines. There are also tracks where he ventures outside his usual style, like “Soul to Keep” and “Make a W.” Overall, the album offers enjoyable beats, moments of storytelling, and surprising diversity.
Favorite Tracks: “Cry No More,” “Tipsy,” & “Martin’s Sofa.”
