Rating: 2.5 out of 5.You get vintage nasty talk from Sexyy Red in both tracks.
Y’all might not believe me when I say it, but Sexyy Red is one of the artists I’d actually nominate for Artist of the Year. Is she one of the best rappers in the game? Hell no. But she’s undeniably made a huge impact on the culture and dropped one of the most memorable projects of the year. And today, she added to her resume with two more tracks: “U Know What To Do (UKWTD)” and “Clouted Up.”
Unlike most, I can actually explain why Sexyy Red’s music has such appeal. One of the key reasons is her ability to channel a vintage Chief Keef sound in many of her tracks. You get a strong sense of that in “U Know What To Do (UKWTD).” Over a beat that feels straight out of the 2009 trap era, Sexyy Red delivers bold and unapologetic bars about engaging in provocative activities with her guy, from going multiple rounds to getting wild in unexpected places and preferring things rough. Her flow is steady and consistent throughout, which is a highlight. As for the hook, while it’s not amazing, it’s definitely catchy enough to get stuck in your head.
“Clouted Up” is Sexyy Red’s anthem for all her haters—of which there are many. In the track, she flexes about kidnapping her opps, having better looks than her rivals, and even being the favorite rapper of those who hate on her. The song’s vintage trap beat gives off strong old-school Gucci Mane vibes, with that familiar gritty, mechanical sound. While her playful, almost “na na na boo boo”-esque flow might not break any new ground, it’s catchy enough to make the track an enjoyable listen.
Sexyy Red is here to stay, guys.
