Is “Lil Yachty Sundays” a thing?
Lil Yachty has been featured on a song or dropped a new track almost every week recently, so it was a bit surprising when a Friday morning came and went without any new music from him. However, it turns out he did return—just a little delayed. Today, Yachty made his comeback with two new tracks: “Cry Me A River” and “We Ball Forever.”
“We Ball Forever” is driven by calm instrumentation that I wouldn’t expect to accompany rap bars, but it works beautifully. Over it, Yachty keeps it real about the beefs he’s not trying to inherit, holding down the women who support him, and balling like a Pacer. The track features a cool and collected version of Yachty, delivering his bars with ease. I vibe with it. However, I’m not a fan of the ending, where he sings in a way that sounds like he’s on the verge of upchucking.
“Cry Me A River” shares a similar calm vibe to “We Ball Forever.” This time around, Lil Yachty plays with a relentless flow while delivering his verses in a soft tone that I can’t say I love. Lyrically, Yachty reminds us that “Life is not fair,” that he’s still indulging in codeine, and that he’s hooking up with more women than Gucci3rdLeg. The song is short, so it feels like it flies by.
This is the version of Lil Yachty that I prefer.
