Cochise blasts off in “WHY ALWAYS ME?”

HONORABLE MENTION. GOOGLE ME
You damn right I Googled Cochise (I wasn’t familiar with his game before writing this review).
“GOOGLE ME” is one of those tracks where Cochise bounces off the wall in a fun way. Do you blame him? The song is driven by two colorful, cartoonish beats that would hype anyone up. Lyrically, Cochise speaks about living a carefree life as much as he can, which involves indulging in women who aren’t his and spending recklessly. Overall, I think the track is cool.
5. MIGHT JUMP
We don’t need any more people jumping off roofs, please.
“MIGHT JUMP” would go hard during a drill session for stoners. Cochise mixes in rhythmic lines reminiscent of the classic drill cadence with playful breathing exercises. He also toys with various flows, challenges his competition, and speaks on how much he’s admired by women. The song is an interesting one.
4. WIT ME (Ft. Anycia)
Cochise has more guns than Contra on him.
Cochise and Anycia let the punchlines fly in “WIT ME.” Cochise uses them to boast about his arsenal of guns, wealth, and attractive women. He also slides his ass off from start to finish, flowing seamlessly over the upbeat, action-packed beat with a cocky style that is undeniably appealing. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as impressed with Anycia’s energy or flow on the track.
3. 4AM
Really bad things happen after 4 AM.
“4AM” has a catchy bounce, driven by both the production and Cochise’s punchy rap style, particularly shining during the infectious chorus. Lyrically, the song isn’t about the hour itself; instead, it emphasizes Cochise’s confidence and dominance over his competition. It’s a fun and energetic track.
2. YOSHIMITSU
Who is Yoshimitsu? It’s a character from Tekken that you can whoop ass with.
Surprisingly, “YOSHIMITSU” is a smooth track where Cochise adopts a laid-back rap style. While it features the typical trippy hip-hop production, he reflects on his financial success, the women he’s treated well, and the lifestyle that comes with it. The song boasts catchy moments, but it’s the overall vibe that’s likely to captivate listeners.
1. NASTY (Ft. Aminé)
Why did this collaboration work so well?
As the great Greg Popovich once said, “I want some nasty!” In “NASTY,” Cochise and Aminé are completely on the same disgusting page. Throughout the song, they sound ready for all kinds of smoke, including confrontations and unfiltered sexual escapades. They also talk their s**t, asserting themselves as the life of any party. What makes the track stand out is how both rappers adopt a style reminiscent of Playboi Carti, which fits perfectly over the frantic and high-energy production. Overall, I would love to hear this track ten shots in.

OVERALL RATING

Another Playboi Carti backup quarterback. He can hold his own, though.
Production: From a production standpoint, this album features beats reminiscent of those used by artists like Playboi Carti—think video game-like, trippy, and multi-layered, with hints of trap vibes. This consistent production style creates a smooth flow throughout the album. However, if this type of sound isn’t your preference, you might be assed out.
Guest Appearances: On WHY ALWAYS ME?, Cochise keeps guest appearances minimal (Only two people make appearances), which gives him plenty of room to showcase his versatile rap styles. Although I didn’t like Anycia’s verse on “WIT ME,” Aminé’s feature on “NASTY” stands out with strong energy and complements the track’s vibe. When it’s all said and done, Cochise’s range in delivery and flow across the album almost gives the illusion of multiple features.
The Performances: Is Cochise the best rapper ever to touch a mic? Probably not. But does he deliver wildly entertaining performances on this album? Absolutely. Throughout each track, he brings impressive energy, adds surprises in his flows and deliveries, and talks s**t in unique ways. His main intention was to bounce off the beats’ walls, and he achieves that from the start.
What Would I Change About This Album? I wish it didn’t sound like every other Playboi Carti clone album. Cochise uses so many rap flows Carti uses, and raps over the same kind of beats. I just want a little more creativity.
The Biggest Reason You Should Listen To This Album is that it’s very fun to listen to. It has good, energetic beats and flows and laidback rap verses that someone who doesn’t take life too seriously will enjoy.
