mgk and Wiz Khalifa Reignite Their Rap Energy on “blog era boyz”

This album sounds like it was recorded during one extremely productive smoke session.

mgk and Wiz Khalifa have officially linked up for blog era boyz, a collaborative album released alongside their upcoming tour. For Wiz, the project arrives during one of the busiest stretches of his career, with multiple solo and collaborative releases already flooding 2026. Meanwhile, for mgk, this marks his first major release since 2025’s lost Americana.

What makes this project interesting is that neither artist is necessarily operating at their commercial peak anymore, yet the album still feels like a reminder that both are more than capable of making hard-hitting and alternative rap music. mgk especially sounds energized here, stepping away from his alternative rock direction and returning with some of his sharpest rap performances in years.

Sonically, the project is built around booming hip-hop production designed to shake car speakers, smooth alternative production made for brunch playlists, a little bit of soulfulness, aggressive flows, and a confident version of Wiz Khalifa. The chemistry between the two works better than expected, largely because they find common ground through themes centered on tattoos, women, personal growth, and money.

At the same time, blog era boyz carries the loose energy of an album that may have been created in just a few studio sessions. It is polished enough to sound complete, but casual enough to feel disposable in the most blog-era way possible. While mgk still delivers a few undeniably cringey moments, the project succeeds because both artists genuinely sound like they are having fun trading bars again.
