“RATHER BE” dropped on May 16th.

GIVEON dropped a new single on Friday, and I have to ask—for the thousandth time—who broke this man’s heart? His music is always heartbreakingly beautiful, and “RATHER BE” is no exception.

The track dives deep into longing and emotional vulnerability. GIVEON sings about missing someone so much that he’d rather be a fool than risk opening his heart to anyone else. He’s not ready to move on, and the only person he’s willing to love again is the one who left him shattered. That kind of emotional honesty hits hard.

As always, GIVEON’s voice is rich with feeling, and the production elevates the track even further. With its soft, soulful instrumentation, “RATHER BE” sounds more like a timeless classic than just another modern R&B single. It has a vintage feel that makes you want to drop the needle on a record player and just feel.

Check out “RATHER BE” below—it’s heartbreak done beautifully.
