Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter VI” Debuts at No. 1 on iTunes Despite Mixed Reactions

No matter what you think about “Tha Carter VI,” it’s doing serious numbers.

After a nearly seven-year hiatus, Lil Wayne finally released his follow-up to Tha Carter V. Tha Carter VI hit streaming platforms last night, and judging by social media chatter, it felt like the whole world was tuned in.

Now, let me be real—I’m probably not going to be the one waving the flag for this project (I actually didn’t enjoy the album much at all). But regardless of how I feel, there’s no denying its commercial impact. This morning, iTunes announced that Tha Carter VI debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes Albums Chart. That’s no small feat, especially considering the flood of new music dropping each week.

This kind of debut strongly suggests that the album is headed toward a solid Billboard chart performance. While we wait for the official numbers to roll in next week, one thing is clear: Weezy still knows how to make noise in a crowded space. Whether you loved the album or not, it’s only right to give him his flowers for continuing to dominate the charts more than two decades into his career.
