Barack Obama Shares His Favorite Songs of 2025 — And the Taste Is Immaculate

Barack Obama

As 2025 comes to a close, Barack Obama is keeping one of his favorite traditions alive by sharing his annual list of favorite songs — and once again, the playlist does not miss.

The former president took to social media to reveal his favorite music of the year, a tradition he started during his time in the White House. Alongside the list, Obama wrote:

“As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favorite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy—and please send any recommendations for me to check out!”

The 2025 list spans genres, generations, and cultures, highlighting everything from pop and hip-hop to alternative, R&B, global sounds, and folk. Standout picks include “LUTHER” by Kendrick Lamar & SZA, “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga, “NICE TO EACH OTHER” by Olivia Dean, “Tatata” by Burna Boy featuring Travis Scott, and “Jump” by BLACKPINK. He also shouted out artists like Rosalía, Laufey, Chappell Roan, Gunna, Chance the Rapper, Sampha, Florence Welch, and Bruce Springsteen.

What makes Obama’s annual music list so enjoyable is how unpredictable yet intentional it feels. One moment you’re getting introspective soul and jazz, the next you’re hearing Afrobeats, K-pop, Latin pop, or indie rock. It’s a reminder that great music transcends genre labels and that curiosity keeps taste fresh.

One thing’s for sure: former President Barack Obama continues to have immaculate taste, and his year-end playlist is once again a great place to discover something new.
