Tory Lanez Becomes the Only Artist in 2025 to Top Both R&B and Hip-Hop Charts

Do you realize how nuts this achievement is?

Tory Lanez just pulled off something no other artist has managed to do in 2025: land a #1 R&B album and a #1 hip-hop album on Apple Music in the same year. That alone puts him in rare territory, regardless of how anyone feels about him personally. The releases responsible for the feat are his newly dropped Chixtapes Trilogy and his earlier, somewhat overlooked jail project PETERSON. Together, they highlight just how deep his range really is.

Before the excuses start flying about it being a “slow year,” it’s worth pausing on what this actually means. Very few artists can convincingly operate at the top level of both R&B and hip-hop. Doing so requires two completely different skill sets, audiences, and instincts. Tory has always moved comfortably between melodic vulnerability and aggressive rap energy, and these chart placements reinforce that duality in a major way.

The Chixtapes series has long been his R&B stronghold, and the trilogy release reminds listeners how natural that lane is for him. Meanwhile, PETERSON leans more into raw rap performance, intensity, and lyrical focus. Together, they showcase two sides of the same artist, both polished and effective.

Whether people want to admit it or not, this achievement strengthens the argument that Tory Lanez is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. Talent-wise, few artists can claim this level of crossover success — and in 2025, the numbers are doing plenty of talking on his behalf.
