I can see Vince Staples experimenting his ass off with this project.
Vince Staples is officially returning with a brand-new album titled CRY BABY, set to drop on June 5. Anytime Vince moves, people should pay attention. He is one of the few artists who can be sharp, funny, uncomfortable, introspective, and brutally honest all in the same verse.
This will mark his first full-length release since Dark Times in 2024, an album that did not get nearly enough love. That project featured one of my favorite Vince records, “Black&Blue,” and reminded listeners that he can still rap circles around people while giving substance.
Right now, details for CRY BABY are still thin. We do not know the track count, features, or exact direction of the album. However, fans did get an early preview through “Blackberry Marmalade.” That single was a curveball, leaning into alternative rock textures while still carrying Vince’s usual social awareness and edge.
That raises the big question: Will CRY BABY be a genre-blending experiment, or was the single just one adventurous detour?
Knowing Vince Staples, it could be both. He has never been the type to repeat himself or chase trends. He would rather make listeners uncomfortable than predictable.
Vince is going to have the album of the year, isn’t he?
