E-40 and Chef Boy Turn Up the Bay on New Single “Pesos”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

There’s nothing quite like The Bay area sound…

E-40 is still ticking, and people really forget how absurd that is. This is a man who was already an Unc on his guest appearance on The Jamie Foxx Show back in the ’90s, and somehow, he’s still dropping bangers. With “Pesos” featuring Chef Boy, the Bay legend kicks off what looks like the rollout for Rule of Thumb: 2—and honestly, it’s a strong first look.

The production we get on “Pesos” isn’t revolutionary, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s built for maximum energy: heavy bass, trunk-rattling presence, and an infectious sample that loops just enough to glue the whole record together. This is “turn the speakers up and don’t ask questions” music.

Chef Boy is a menace throughout. He genuinely sounds like a line cook yelling orders across a kitchen mid-rush, which somehow works perfectly here. The name fits, G*ddammit. E-40, meanwhile, does exactly what E-40 does—unorthodox flows, Bay-coded confidence, and constant reminders that he’s HIM where he’s from.

Will this resonate everywhere? Maybe not. But in the Bay—or anywhere that respects gorilla energy—this record is pure ignition.
