Jill Scott Returns With “To Whom May Concern” and Sounds Unstoppable

Yes, Jill Scott clearly feels free with the release of this album…

Can you believe Jill Scott has not dropped an album in over a decade? In that same stretch, NBA YoungBoy has probably released 257 projects (I’m actually underestimating here).

Well, she is back with a new 19-track album titled To Whom It May Concern. The project features major names like Tierra Whack, Too $hort, Ab-Soul, JID, and more.

The very first thing that stands out is how poetic the album feels. Throughout the project, Ms. Jill leans heavily into spoken word, offering messages meant to uplift, motivate, and empower, often without even singing. When she does sing, though, she absolutely shows out. Her voice carries rich passion and authority as she glides over lush neo-soul and jazzy backdrops. It almost feels like listening to a preacher who isn’t rogue and can reach notes higher than Jehovah’s apartment in heaven.

She even steps into rap territory on tracks like “Norf Side,” where she pays homage to her Philadelphia roots with confidence and charisma. I’m happy to confirm that Jill raps better than 80% of the rappers in the game.

All in all, this is a grand, diverse, multi-layered, and powerful album that makes one thing clear: Ms. Jill is back and as unstoppable as ever.
