JPEGMAFIA Ignites Pure Chaos on “babygirl”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Lowkey, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad JPEGMAFIA song.

Yesterday, JPEGMAFIA announced that he will release a brand-new album called Experimental Rap on May 21. Considering he has already built a career off being one of the most unpredictable and left-field artists in hip-hop, naming the project that should scare every casual hip-hop fan in the world.

To help build anticipation, Peggy also dropped the new single “babygirl.”

The track features punchy production that sounds like it is crouched at the starting line, ready to explode at any second. There is also a rowdy loop running through the beat that gives the song extra fuel. Then, near the end, listeners are rewarded with one of JPEGMAFIA’s signature rock-infused takeovers, but you have to survive the earlier madness first.

Vocally, JPEGMAFIA sounds like his usual villainous self. He raps with aggression, sharp confidence, and a flow that starts controlled before becoming more relentless as the song moves forward. If Deni Avidja’s game were a rap style, it would be this.

Lyrically, he talks trash, threatens competition, and finds common ground with the h*es instead of scaring them. The chorus, which, I’m not exactly sure who raps it at this very moment, might be the true scene-stealer, bringing a slick and catchy balance to all the chaos.

We need more JPEGMAFIAs in this world. I’m tired of listening to rap music that makes no sense. At least his music doesn’t make sense in an artistic way.
