6LACK and Young Thug Get Reflective on “Ashin’ the Blunt”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I didn’t expect the emotional impact this song had on me.

“Ashin’ the Blunt” pulls you in almost immediately with its production. The beat feels darker and moodier than I expected, but honestly, that works in the song’s favor. There is this heavy, almost isolated atmosphere hanging over the entire track that really matches the emotions behind it.

6LACK and Young Thug dive into the struggles that come with fame, especially when it starts affecting relationships and personal connections. At the center of the song is this feeling of wanting to be there for someone you love, but constantly being pulled away by obligations, work, and the nonstop pressure that comes with superstardom. There is love there, there is effort there, but also this fear that distance and absence might slowly ruin things anyway.

What makes the track hit is how reflective it feels. It is not overly dramatic, but it carries this tired, stressed energy that feels real. The title itself almost becomes a visual. You can picture someone sitting there late at night, lost in thought, stressed out, ashing the blunt while overthinking everything happening around them.

Vocally, both artists fit the production really well. 6LACK brings his usual emotional smoothness, while Young Thug adds texture and unpredictability that keeps the track interesting without taking away from the mood.

It is emotional, introspective, and quietly heavy in a way that sneaks up on you.
