We don’t deserve such excellence.
R&B isn’t dead. Y’all just need to stop being lazy and actually look for the artists keeping the genre alive. Lucky Daye and Leon Thomas are two of the biggest names doing it right now, so hearing them connect on “Fly U Out” feels like a collaboration that was bound to happen.
The production is smooth as hell, bringing together crisp snaps, ocean-like sounds, gorgeous chords, and a relaxed R&B bounce. Everything works together to create a sensual atmosphere that fits the song’s subject matter perfectly.
Vocally, Lucky Daye and Leon Thomas are both excellent. They sing with plenty of passion, hit strong notes, and give their performances a slick quality that makes the song feel effortless. What really makes the record work, though, is how their vocal styles differ. They sound distinct enough from one another while still blending together naturally.
Their chemistry is probably my favorite part of “Fly U Out.” You can hear how comfortable they are sharing the same record, and it makes me want to hear what they could create across an entire project.
I miss the days R&B was slick and demonic like this.
