Spotify Launches AI Covers and Fan-First Ticket Access

Spotify is making some major moves!

Spotify and Universal Music Group have announced a new licensing deal that brings AI-generated covers and remixes into the official streaming ecosystem. The feature will allow Spotify Premium users to create AI-assisted versions of songs from participating artists and songwriters, marking a major shift in how fans interact with music.

The tool will launch as a paid add-on and is designed to ensure artists and songwriters are compensated when their work is used for AI-generated interpretations. Spotify is framing the system around “consent, credit, and compensation,” positioning it as a controlled alternative to unofficial AI music tools that have circulated online.

Rather than treating AI creation as a threat, the model integrates it into a licensed framework where rights holders can actively participate and earn from fan-driven creativity. It signals a broader industry move toward formalizing AI usage in music production instead of leaving it unregulated.

Alongside this, Spotify is rolling out a new feature called “Reserved,” which identifies an artist’s most dedicated listeners and allows them to access up to two tickets before general sale. The feature is aimed at reducing scalping and improving access for real fans.

Reserved will launch in the United States this summer, with additional markets expected to follow. Together, both updates show Spotify’s push to connect streaming, creation, and live experiences under a more structured fan economy.
