Olivia Rodrigo continues to raise the bar.
When early projections suggested that you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love would debut with just over 300,000 units, I thought the final number would end up being much higher.
Turns out, it is.
Hits Daily Double now projects Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album to sell between 420,000 and 440,000 units in its opening week. That’s an enormous figure in today’s music industry and enough to secure the biggest debut of her career.
The jump isn’t exactly surprising when you consider the momentum behind the project. Singles like “drop dead” and “the cure” were already putting up huge streaming numbers before the album’s release, while Olivia’s fanbase continues to grow with every era.
The updated forecast also puts the album comfortably ahead of both SOUR and GUTS. While those projects established Olivia as a superstar, this one could further separate her from the rest of her pop contemporaries.
What’s fascinating is that the album appears to be resonating with both casual listeners and diehard fans. That’s usually the formula behind truly massive first-week numbers.
If these projections hold, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love won’t just be another successful Olivia Rodrigo album. It’ll be a statement.
