Vince Staples’ storytelling feels perfectly suited for the intimate Tiny Desk stage.

Vince Staples’ Tiny Desk Concert arrives tomorrow, and it’s one of the performances I’m most looking forward to this year. As a matter of fact, I’m blocking my calendar off for it (Screw that dentist appointment).

To be completely honest, I get excited whenever an artist steps into the Tiny Desk setting because the series strips away the extras and creates an intimate environment where the music has to speak for itself. That’s exactly why Vince Staples feels like such a worthwhile choice.

While Vince may not have the kind of universally recognizable hit that dominates playlists, he’s spent years building one of hip-hop’s strongest catalogs through thoughtful, layered projects. His music has always prioritized storytelling, sharp observations, and subtle emotion over flashy moments. That approach should translate perfectly to the Tiny Desk format, where lyrics and musicianship naturally become the focal point.

One performance that immediately comes to mind is Scarface’s unforgettable Tiny Desk session, which proved how powerful great storytelling can be in a stripped-down setting. Vince has the ability to create that same kind of experience.

If I could choose the setlist, I’d love to hear “WHEN SPARKS FLY,” “Tweakin,” and “White Flag.” Then again, beggars can’t be choosers, so I’ll take what I can get.
