Jhené Aiko disappeared from album mode for six years, returned with only a few days’ warning, and casually went straight to No. 1. That is one helluva way to remind everyone that your fan base remains locked in.
Her fourth studio album, Westside Whimsy, has officially reached the top of the U.S. Apple Music albums chart. Released September 11 through Def Jam Recordings, the project ends the lengthy wait that followed her 2020 album, Chilombo.
The new album gives listeners plenty to explore across 20 tracks. Kendrick Lamar delivers one of its biggest guest appearances on “So Good,” marking his first direct collaboration with Jhené in more than a decade. Ab-Soul appears on “Love Bomb,” Tyga joins “Like, Whatever,” Larry June assists on “Neighbors,” and OHMA contributes to “Golden Coast.”
That guest list is impressive, but Westside Whimsy does not rely entirely on star power. Jhené’s calming vocals and deeply personal writing remain at the center as dreamy R&B and lo-fi production move gently around her
