The NBA superstar could soon be making one of sports’ most unique daily commutes.

LeBron James is officially a Philadelphia 76er, but according to Brian Windhorst, he won’t be calling Philadelphia home. Instead, the NBA superstar is expected to live in New York City and commute to Philadelphia for games and team activities, potentially by helicopter.

It’s an interesting development, especially considering LeBron’s long history with New York. There was once a time when many believed he wanted to play for the Knicks, but the organization reportedly wasn’t interested. Now, he’ll finally be living in the city, even if he’ll be wearing a Sixers jersey instead.

I’ll admit, though, the helicopter part makes me a little uneasy. I’ve never been a fan of helicopters, and it’s impossible not to think about Kobe Bryant whenever the topic comes up. The connection feels even stranger when you remember that Kobe’s final tweet congratulated LeBron for passing him on the NBA’s all-time scoring list during a game in Philadelphia as a member of the Lakers.

Of course, plenty of people have successfully made similar commutes before. JJ Redick notably lived in Brooklyn while playing for the Sixers, so LeBron certainly wouldn’t be the first athlete to take that route. Whatever the case, The King will undoubtedly make it work.
