The pop star’s experimental new album is already projected to significantly outperform his debut’s opening numbers.

Alex Warren is on track for the biggest chart debut of his career. According to Hits Daily Double, his new album WILDCHILD is projected to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 75,000–80,000 equivalent album units in its first week. If those numbers hold, it will officially become his highest-charting album.

The 13-track project features songs including “FEVER DREAM” and “FINE PLACE TO BE,” with Warren handling the entire project solo dolo. This time around, he seems to be leaning further into experimental sounds, giving himself more room to explore musically rather than simply recreating what worked before.

The projected numbers are especially impressive when you compare them to his debut album, You’ll Be Alright, Kid. That project opened with roughly 50,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. and debuted inside the Billboard 200 Top 5. It eventually became a major long-term success, spending 13 non-consecutive weeks inside the Top 10.

Of course, the biggest difference is that You’ll Be Alright, Kid had “Ordinary,” which became an absolutely massive hit and turned Warren into a legitimate pop star. That song’s success gave the album incredible staying power.

I wouldn’t necessarily expect WILDCHILD to produce another “Ordinary,” because lightning like that doesn’t strike twice very often. But if these opening numbers are any indication, Warren has already built an audience willing to show up for him.

Now we get to see whether WILDCHILD can develop the same kind of legs.
