demxntia and Stephanie Poetri Blur Friendship and Romance on “mi amor”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A confessional alternative gem that explores the conflicting emotions of wanting a deeper connection.

demxntia is a Vietnamese artist from Tampa, Florida, whose distinctive sound blends R&B, hip-hop, and alternative music. Some of his previous releases include “it kills me,” “keep smiling,” and “tonight.” His latest offering is the 12-track alternative album chasing ghosts.

Among the songs featured on the project is “mi amor,” a collaboration with singer, songwriter, and producer Stephanie Poetri. While discussing the album on Instagram, demxntia explained that it “explores how we confront the future while haunted by the past, searching for people we no longer know, feelings we no longer experience, and versions of ourselves we no longer recognize.”

Blending R&B, pop, and alt-rock elements, “mi amor” creates a captivating backdrop through expressive electric guitars and feel-good percussion. Lyrics such as “I noticed your smile / Feels different with me / If I’m more than just a friend / Don’t let me go” capture the heart-tugging experience of wanting a friendship to become something more while being afraid to reveal those feelings.

Through the compelling combination of demxntia and Stephanie Poetri’s vocals, the pair delivers a raw and relatable account of two people caught between friendship and romance. Add in the track’s mesmerizing genre-blending sound and undeniably sweet visuals, and “mi amor” becomes a confessional alternative gem about craving a deeper connection but hesitating to act on it.
