M’Lynn makes the basement sound better than every overpriced rooftop lounge with a dress code.
Some artists sound like they chose music; M’Lynn sounds like music chose her. The singer-songwriter and pianist has spent time turning emotions and introspective outlook into songs that feel personal and accessible. On “Basement,” her incredible voice, musical instincts, and writing come together beautifully.
The song celebrates an environment built on valuable things: positive energy, conversations, company, and music that makes people feel at home. M’Lynn understands that the perfect gathering does not require an extravagant setting. With the right atmosphere, even a basement can become the best room in the world.
That warmth carries into the production. Dusty drums provide a hip-hop knock, while gentler textures soften the edges and give the track a cozy glow. The combination reminded me of Ye’s production years, when soulful details and hard drums regularly shared the same space.
M’Lynn responds with a graceful vocal performance, floating across the beat as though gravity stopped working. Her melody is infectious, her delivery feels angelic, and every note strengthens the song’s comforting mood.
If your life needs more feel-good music, “Basement” is exactly where you should go.
