This should be a fun, organic collaboration.
Anderson .Paak and Cordae are officially ready to launch their collaborative-album era.
The longtime collaborators will release their new single, “A Good Day,” on Wednesday. They previewed the track on social media with a 20-second trailer featuring them dressed as old men, sitting outside a house and chatting like old folks do. The song samples Bill Withers’ timeless 1977 record “Lovely Day,” meaning the duo is working with one of the warmest and most recognizable foundations imaginable.
“A Good Day” will serve as the first single from their forthcoming collaborative album, HEAVY IS THE CROWN, which is scheduled to arrive on October 23 through APESHIT, Mass Appeal, and EMPIRE. J. Cole is also rumored to be heavily involved in the album’s creation.
This partnership has been developing for years. Cordae and .Paak first connected on the J. Cole-produced “RNP” in 2019 before reuniting for “Two Tens” and “Summer Drop.” Each collaboration showcased their ability to trade bars, inject humor into their performances, and sound like two friends genuinely enjoying themselves in the studio.
Their styles simply make sense together. Cordae provides sharp lyricism and laid-back coolness, while .Paak brings soulful vocals and explosive charisma. If “A Good Day” captures that familiar chemistry, HEAVY IS THE CROWN could become one of October’s most entertaining releases.
