BigXthaPlug and Belly Gang Kushington have teamed up for “LITE,” a new single arriving this Friday, and its promotional trailer already feels like a miniature Southern rap movie.

The clip follows the two rappers through a strip club, a gas station, and the kind of expensive car my bank account would immediately reject. Dancers appear throughout the trailer, while an older woman playing piano introduces the track in an unexpectedly soulful way. That piano-driven warmth is eventually joined by a heavy Southern knock, creating production that sounds capable of accommodating both artists without forcing either one to change.

BigXthaPlug enters the collaboration as one of rap’s hottest names. His country-rap project I Hope You’re Happy proved that he can stretch beyond expectations while maintaining the deep voice and commanding energy that made him a star.

Belly Gang Kushington, however, may have even more to gain. His momentum has steadily increased through major co-signs, an appearance on XXL’s Freshman list, and “WTF GOIN ON” with 21 Savage reaching the Billboard Hot 100’s top 50. Landing beside BigXthaPlug on “LITE” could push that rise forward considerably.

For BigXthaPlug, the song provides another chance to remind everyone how effective he is as a collaborator. For Belly Gang Kushington, it could represent another major step toward stardom.

Also, shout-out to the big boys for reclaiming some space in relevant hip-hop. I’m excited to hear how this one pans out.
