Jhené Aiko is officially on the verge of achieving the biggest Billboard 200 milestone of her career.

According to Hits Daily Double, her new album, Westside Whimsy, is expected to debut at No. 1 after earning approximately 73,000 equivalent album units during its opening week. That total exceeds the project’s original projection of 65,000–70,000 units.

Once Billboard confirms the result, Westside Whimsy will become Aiko’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. It will also surpass the No. 2 peak that Chilombo achieved in 2020. That album later received an Album of the Year nomination at the Grammys, making it one of the defining releases of her career.

Westside Whimsy is Jhené’s first studio album in six years. The 20-track project includes appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Larry June, Ab-Soul, Tyga, and Ohma. Kendrick contributes to “So Good,” renewing a creative relationship that stretches back more than a decade.

It felt like an unusually quiet release week, and Jhené took full advantage. Still, reducing the accomplishment to weak competition would be unfair. There has been a noticeable void for her dreamy, introspective style of R&B, and hearing her deliver it again felt genuinely refreshing.

With 73,000 opening units, Jhené is positioned to reach No. 1 in her late 30s. Some of the most meaningful career milestones simply arrive later.
