Miley Cyrus Leads Yeat and AZ Chike in First-Day Spotify Streams

Miley Cyrus leads the group, while Yeat posts a strong opening for a seven-track EP.

First-day streams are in for three releases that have little in common beyond their arrival on Spotify. Miley Cyrus’ Bass Persuades drew 6.2 million streams in its first full day, Yeat’s COCOON EP earned approximately 4.56 million, and AZ Chike’s No Rest for the Wicked earned approximately 1.39 million.

Miley takes the top spot here. A 6.2 million-stream opening suggests plenty of listeners were ready to hear her latest musical direction. That is a promising start for Bass Persuades, although the first day is only one piece of the story.

Yeat’s number might be the one that surprised me most. COCOON is seven tracks long and began as what he described as a five-song pack made while touring. The project grew before release, and listeners showed up for the finished version. When an artist can put out a relatively short EP and draw 4.56 million streams immediately, the audience is paying attention.

Then there is AZ Chike. His 1.39 million streams put No Rest for the Wicked behind the other two projects, but it is still a meaningful opening for him. The number gives him something to build on as more listeners discover the album.

Spotify’s first-day totals are fun to compare; they are not the final verdict on any release. I’m interested to see which of these projects has people coming back next week.
