G-Eazy has to get with the times…
I can’t wait to tell my son how poppin’ G-Eazy once was when he gets older. The man was cool as hell, could actually spit, and knew exactly how to make slick rap records that belonged at parties. Everything seemingly went south after he released that one God-awful emo album, but “JFK” suggests he might finally be finding his old self again.
The single arrives as G-Eazy begins an independent chapter through a partnership with Ty Dolla $ign’s EZMNY Records and EMPIRE. That makes their collaboration feel like more than a random linkup.
“JFK” features slick, California-inspired, club-ready production that sounds like it escaped from 2017 but still goes. Ty Dolla $ign delivers an equally nostalgic chorus about walking into the function and lighting up the room.
G-Eazy handles the verses with his usual sly, laid-back style, reminding listeners how hard he parties, how many women he is cuffing, and how he can take more shots than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander whenever necessary. I only wish his vocals sounded livelier.
Overall, the song feels slightly stale and dated, but the chemistry works, the beat knocks, and hearing G-Eazy return to this lane is still pretty cool.
