“Olivia does remixes now.” That’s a very good thing.
Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan are a match made in pop diva heaven, and they’ve finally released a collaboration: a remix of Olivia’s “expectations” from her summer album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.
It’s absolute perfection. Our expectations were high, and they were certainly met. Olivia’s part remains unchanged and is just as delightful as the original, while Chappell brings her own playful energy. She opens with “Ooh, Olivia does remixes now,” then delivers a verse about a girl who ghosted her after a concert date. Chappell calls it “classic LA behavior,” while Olivia points out that the girl could’ve simply declined a second date.
Chappell’s ad-libs at the end are to die for. My favorite comes when Olivia sings, “I’m not kissing any boy that is passive,” and Chappell responds, “I’m not kissing no boy.” It’s so Chappell. The two spend the song and video having an absolute blast, and I love that for them.
Their friendship comes through naturally, especially in the infectious energy of the gameshow-inspired video. I’d accept an invitation to their slumber party without hesitation. I’m obsessed with this track.
