D’Angelo’s Brother Confirms Posthumous Album and More Possible Vault Releases

D’Angelo’s vault could yield a solo album alongside separate collections of B-sides and covers.

There’s more D’Angelo music to look forward to, according to his brother, Luther Archer. Speaking with Kiss Richmond, Archer confirmed that a posthumous album is being assembled, while other releases from the singer’s vault are also under consideration.

Archer said the upcoming project currently has six tracks and is intended to feature D’Angelo without collaborations. However, there’s still work happening behind the scenes. The team has access to more unreleased music and is figuring out which recordings belong on the album.

So, before everybody starts planning their listening party, we still need a title, release date, and final tracklist. Those six songs represent where the process stands, rather than a confirmed final length.

Archer also floated separate collections of B-sides and covers, which could give listeners different ways to explore D’Angelo’s work. Another intriguing detail was his mention of a recording involving Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson. He didn’t establish when it might arrive or how it fits into the broader plans.

Personally, hearing that there’s a vault is exciting enough. I don’t need every recording rushed onto streaming tomorrow. I want the selections to feel thoughtful and the presentation to honor the artist behind them. If that means waiting while the team sorts through everything, I’m fine with that. This music deserves its moment.

Country and EDM are hard genres to mix, but Kygo has been known to do it, and Ava Max’s voice works very well with this style of music. She can really sing. I love genre blending, and this is a great example of that.
