A rage-rap track that sounds like your gaming console challenged you to a fistfight.
I mean this respectfully: Cochise feels like a replacement quarterback for Playboi Carti. They have similar instincts for chaotic production and voice alterations, and “JEWELER” keeps that comparison alive. Somebody hand this man the playbook.
The production sounds like fighting your way through a video game’s coding while wires keep wrapping around your ankles. There’s mayhem everywhere, and finding the door to freedom doesn’t sound guaranteed. It gives Cochise a backdrop that suits his more frantic tendencies.
He leans into high-pitched vocals and an erratic flow, delivering bars about lean, bad chicks, and conversations with his plugs. Nothing about the performance feels restrained. That recklessness can become catchy once you settle into the rhythm, but I can also understand somebody finding the vocals grating.
For me, this works best as a quick burst of energy. I’m not pretending every vocal choice connects, but there’s enough bounce to keep me from checking out. All in all, I guess I can get jiggy with “JEWELER.” Just give me a second to untangle myself from the beat.
