Akademiks Says Drake Could Sign the Biggest Record Deal in History

Drake’s extensive catalog remains part of the conversation as speculation grows about his next contract.

Drake could be approaching another massive payday, according to DJ Akademiks.

The media personality claims Drake is nearing a new agreement with Universal Music Group that could become the biggest record deal in history. Although Akademiks described his information as official, no corresponding announcement or financial terms from Drake or UMG were independently located.

The claim arrives alongside a chart update listing 11 Drake projects on the Billboard 200. HABIBTI leads that list at No. 7, followed by ICEMAN at No. 12 and Take Care at No. 18. Older releases, including Thank Me Later, Views, and Nothing Was the Same, also appear.

That catalog activity is the more interesting part of the business conversation. A label isn’t only investing in whatever Drake records next; his existing music continues to give listeners reasons to return.

UMG previously confirmed a broad Drake partnership covering multiple areas of his business. A new agreement could have similarly important details beyond the headline number.

For now, Akademiks has made a major claim. If a deal is announced, I’ll be interested in what Drake actually receives—and what he gives up in exchange.

Warm Me Up is a solid Christmas album. David Archuleta has a great voice, and some of the songs have interesting arrangements. It wasn’t bad or anything. It just really makes me wonder why it had to be an album.
“My Guy” is a track on Sam Smith’s album Hazel Eyes, where Sam sings about a pure, secure love with their lover: their “guy.” This remix adds Jacob Lusk, and I have mixed feelings.
The music for Sunrise on the Reaping will really wreck us all emotionally before we even see the movie. On “Favor,” Gigi Perez sings a mournful ballad that perfectly evokes Lenore Dove’s character in Sunrise on the Reaping.
Lady A’s new song “Bigger Picture” is overtly Christian, despite the group typically releasing secular country-pop. Lead singer Hillary Scott has always been open about her Christian faith, and it’s front and center on “Bigger Picture.” At the same time, everyone has something to gain from this song.
