Back in the day, DJ Kay Slay used to annoy the s**t out of me when I heard his voice on all of those bootleg rap songs. Well, these days, the New York DJ prefers to play the back, opting to release music both legally and voice-free. In Hip Hop Frontline, Kay Slay was able to create a body of work that blends authentic old school rap music with the carefree/explosive ones you hear today. The end result is sixteen tracks of straight fire! (more…)

Boogie – Everything’s For Sale (Album Review)

Boogie’s time being a little-known rapper in the game should come to an end tonight. With the release of “Everything’s For Sale,” not only do I expect to hear high praise from hip-hop fans once they listen to his highly intelligent bars, but I also expect a Wikipedia page to finally be put up for him. (Seriously, dude was in a Snickers commercial with the legendary Elton John, what else does he have to do to get a f**king Wikipedia page put up for him?) (more…)

Stream XXXTENTACION Presents: “Members Only, Vol. 4”

XXXTENTACION’s music continues to appear long after his death, and not a single fan of hip hop should be mad about that. In his latest effort, “Members Only, Vol. 4,” he was able to gather together a myriad of artists (Ski Mask The Slump God, Kid Trunks, Craig Xen, Bass Santana, Tankhead, Corey, Flyboy Tarantino, Ikabod Veins, Cooliecut, Killstation, and more) to create a body of work that is daring, unpredictable and eerie. I’ma keep it real with you: these Chief Keef mixtapes have been pretty awful. The music has featured some questionable bars, muddled production, and flat-out pitiful singing. With “The Leek 7,” don’t expect anything different, which means it’s your fault if you catch brain-damage listening to it. Well, enjoy!  (more…)

Malibu Ken looks like he’s made several poor decisions in his life. Anyway, this project contains ten mind-numbing tracks that feature wacky/solid bars, out-of-this-worldly instrumentals and pretty unique subject-matters. I f**k with it! (more…)

Mike Posner has went through some major changes in his life these last couple of years — from his appearance to his style of music. With these changes has come peace, serenity and happiness — three things every human-being should strive for in their lives. In “A Real Good Kid,” Posner does a great job of highlighting the reasons he changed, gifting us with twelve tracks full of soul-searching and vulnerable music.  (more…)

James Blake – Assume Form (Album Review)

img_3727

When James Blake was born, his parents blessed him with a generic name that is as forgettable as a white house ceremonial dinner. However, his music skills is far from generic, especially when you consider all the big name artists he’s helped make masterpieces in the past (Jay-Z, Beyonce, Frank Ocean and more). Today, the guy who’s played the back more than Nick Foles gets his chance to shine with “Assume Form,” and in my opinion, he certainly doesn’t disappoint.   (more…)

Stream Soulja Boy’s “Fuego” Album

Young Draco is back, and he is as reckless as ever! After a few years chilling in the ‘ho-hum’ bracket of rap, Soulja Boy has made his triumphant return to semi-relevant music, releasing “Fuego” — A twelve-track album that features some interesting (By interesting, I mean awful) music. Unfortunately, the project doesn’t feature anyone other then Seattle’s very own Lil Mosey, Soulja Boy, Soulja Boy and Soulja Boy (He plays several different characters on the album)…  (more…)
