Not only should the Zone 6 rapper’s longevity in the game be applauded, but his ability to remain his grandiose/trap self should be recognized, too. Since dropping “Look Alive,” it seems like BlocBoy JB has been on a steady decline. You can argue that his willingness to experiment with a bunch of different sounds is the reason he hasn’t been poppin’, or perhaps, he wasn’t that good to begin with. With the release of “I Am Me,” the Tennessee native looks to go back to his roots, gifting us with a body of work that is full of nothing but authentic trap vibes. Just when you thought Dipset’s Jim Jones was starting to slow down, he releases the Heatmakerz produced album titled “El Capo.” It features sixteen tracks full of great features (Including Jadakiss, Cam’ron, Fabolous, Rick Ross and Dave East), fire ass beats and hood-inspired content you can’t ignore. Kevin Gates is a man on a mission. I feel like whenever he raps, he sees himself as a prophet that won’t be able to sleep at night if he doesn’t give proper advice to individuals in the hood that want to come-up like him. With that being said, “Only The Generals Gon Understand” is a six track body of work that’s informative, passionate and powerful enough to make those who aren’t generals feel a bit threatened; please don’t let that deter you from pressing play on it, though. Chicago’s very own, Calboy, comes through with a helluva debut in “Wild Boy” — a ten track project that features some impressive melodies and deep ass content real ones can relate to. The project also features guest appearances by Meek Mill, Lil Durk, Yo Gotti and Young Thug — this should get a few of the fair weather hip-hop fans of the world to at least give it a shot.
