JT Releases “OKAY”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I hate to say it, but we may never get another City Girls album. Earlier in the month, JT and Yung Miami found themselves in a spat, but it barely registered on the radar amidst the spectacle of Drake’s skirmishes with seemingly half the industry. That said, I do think JT and Miami are pretty solid solo artists. Today, the former dropped a new single called “OKAY.” This is a follow-up to the latter’s single from last week called “CFWM.”

It seems like there’s been a trend among female rappers lately to create anthems. Tracks like “Get It Sexyy” and “Yeah Glo!” come to mind, and “OKAY” seems to fit right into that same vibe. In the track, propelled by a beat you might hear on Young Jeezy’s classic Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 album, JT reflects on her journey from difficult times to her current shine. While I appreciate her confident lyrics, I’m not entirely sold on the simplicity of her rap style. Nonetheless, I still think it’s a solid listen.

I really f**k with the way JT and Yung Miami embrace 2000s trap music.
