Honorable Mention. A Message From My Younger Self

Logic, from the mean streets of Gaithersburg, wants to thank you.

This 2011 flashback sees Logic expressing gratitude to his fans for supporting him throughout his journey to success. He also delivers an inspiring message, encouraging listeners to stay true to themselves while pursuing their dreams. All in all, “A Message From My Younger Self” serves as a heartfelt outro, highlighting music’s deep significance in his life.

Logic kind of sounded like Trae Young back then.

Honorable Mention. Not A Game (Ft. Lucy Rose)

You mean to tell me Kaytranada didn’t produce this s**t?

Logic definitely rambles in “Not A Game.” Throughout the track, he bounces between topics, rapping about his love for his job, how he stands out from the competition, and refusing to let anyone mess with his money or freedom now that he’s out of contracts. His delivery is confident, but his verses feel scattered, with no clear direction tying them together.

What really shines here is the production. The beat exudes a Kaytranada-esque energy, radiating feel-good vibes and a groove that’s perfect for dancing. Lucy Rose’s soothing vocals complement the track beautifully, adding a touch of warmth to the mix. While Logic’s commanding presence suits the beat, the lack of cohesion in his rap style holds the song back from being as impactful as it could be.

3. French Dispatch

This is that Alex Sarr flow, son.

“French Dispatch” is one of those tracks you’ll either find absolutely terrible or downright brilliant. The song’s trippy vibe is driven by its unique production, with the audio dipping in and out, creating an unconventional listening experience. Logic adopts a quirky, Eminem-meets-JID rap style as he delves into thoughts about retirement, reflects on the stark contrast between his son’s privileged upbringing and his own, and confronts how anxiety hasn’t hindered his drive. If unorthodox, experimental music isn’t your thing, this track might not hit the mark for you.

2. This Is The Way

J. Logic?

Logic dives deep into reminiscing on “This Is The Way.” He reflects on his early dedication to rap, recalling the countless hours he spent studying the craft. He also touches on how love eluded him and how he felt trapped as a slave to the industry during his rise to success.

Logic has rarely sounded colder than he does on this track. Despite the production carrying a lively tempo and a slightly sunny undertone, his delivery is sharp and indifferent, almost like he’s rapping out of obligation. Oddly enough, that tone works well here, especially since his flow is tight and consistent throughout. What doesn’t work is the brief moment where it seems like he’s debating whether to add a hook (Did y’all catch that?).

1. Universe

If the Sacramento Kings keep lighting their beam, they will give the universe cancer.

In “Universe,” Logic exudes a sense of newfound clarity and confidence, declaring he’s ready to confront his demons and dismiss the opinions of others. He makes it clear that his top priority is securing his financial success right now.

What stands out most about the track is its dynamic nature. Logic seamlessly alternates between rapid-fire flows brimming with assertiveness and an infectious, hypnotic chorus that stays with you long after the song ends. Both elements perfectly complement the moody, atmospheric production that ties the whole piece together.

SONG-BY-SONG RATING

1. This Is The Way (4/5)

2. French Dispatch (4/5)

3. Not A Game (Ft. Lucy Rose) (3.5/5)

4. Universe (4.5/5)

5. A Message From My Younger Self (N/A)

RGM RATING

(80%)

The Logic we hear today is a far cry from the Logic of a few years ago. He now exudes a sense of gratitude and self-assurance, sounding completely at peace with who he is. On Aquarius III, nothing feels forced or overproduced. The beats blend the introspective tones typical of conscious rap with quirky, danceable vibes, creating a soundscape that feels fresh yet authentic.

Lyrically, Logic touches on themes of growth, independence, and his enduring love for hip-hop, and every word feels deeply personal. This project gives the impression that Logic made it for himself, a cathartic release he decided to share with his audience. It’s an unfiltered and genuine expression of where he is now, both as an artist and as a person.
