Chance The Rapper, Lil Wayne, and Smino have teamed up for a hazy, genre-bending new track titled “Tree”—a weed-inspired cut that fuses soulful melodies with eclectic energy, playful lyricism, and a touch of reflection.
At its heart, “Tree” is a celebration of cannabis in all forms, led by Chance The Rapper’s smooth, almost whimsical chorus, where he channels his inner India Arie to sing about getting high. The hook is catchy, endearing, and laced with that signature Chance charm, but it’s his verse that gives the track depth. Rapping with an animated, fast-paced style, Chance reflects on his mother’s grind under corporate pressure and expands that into a message of solidarity for anyone who’s struggled, pledging to smoke for them all.
Then there’s Smino, who flips the energy completely with a mid-track “commercial break” that’s unlike anything else you’ll hear this week (In my Donald Trump voice). Dipping into his most eccentric vocal bag, he delivers a quirky, left-field interlude that adds even more character to the song. And of course, Lil Wayne slides in with a laid-back verse packed with his signature punchlines—comparing different strains of weed to everything from distractions to divine intervention. His flow is effortless, his rhymes sticky, and his references as wild as ever.
While “Tree” runs a bit long and may not land in heavy rotation for everyone, it’s undeniably creative, fun, and packed with personality. Check the song out below.
