Looks like we got some new Drake to bump on Juneteenth.
Drake is back in his “I do whatever I want” bag, and I absolutely love it. He can afford to be there, too. He already has one of the best-selling albums of the year with ICEMAN, along with two other projects, HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR. Now, with Scary Hours 4 reportedly on the way, he’s returned with a smooth new single called “Serious.”
“Serious” finds Drake fully embracing his melodic side. The track features a groovy, danceable vibe that feels tailor-made for a fancy dinner in any Little Italy across America. As for Drake, he delivers gentle, comforting vocals while showing just enough passion to remind listeners he can still thrive in singer mode.
Lyrically, the self-proclaimed 6 God leans into his Heartbreak Drake persona, attempting to convince a woman that he has changed and is finally ready to take things seriously. It’s the kind of pitch that sounds familiar coming from him, but somehow never gets old.
Overall, the track is enjoyable, though it sounds a bit unfinished in terms of mixing and mastering. Nonetheless, hearing new Drake will always move the needle.
