Tinashe Delivers a Fearless Electronic R&B Rush With “Melatonin”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Tinashe’s music has been speaking to my soul lately.

I’ve learned something recently: I’m a big fan of Tinashe. I just love the unique, high-energy R&B music she makes. I also love that you never know what she’s ready to rant about from song to song. Her latest single is “Melatonin,” and it’s as bold and ambitious as anything she’s ever made.

“Melatonin” is high energy. First off, the production will have folks sweating like Patrick Ewing on the dance floor, with its energetic, quirky electronic-dance vibes. As for Tinashe, her regular self actually plays a supporting role here, making her first appearance around 1:12 after this heavily altered voice steals the show. She brings the infectious melodies and reiterates the purpose of the track, which is to be ready to karate chop anyone hating on the queen.

Tinashe has spent the last few years reinventing herself, and “Melatonin” feels like another example of her refusing to stay in one box. You gotta be amped up for her upcoming project Popstar.
