SABRE & LeWolf Deliver a Sultry Afro-Bop With “Deep End”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I’m going to need “Deep End” on repeat the second I touch down in the islands.

SABRE and LeWolf are back with “Deep End,” and this pairing wastes absolutely no time showing off what happens when two artists with different backgrounds bring their worlds together. SABRE, based in Toronto by way of California, and Congolese-born producer LeWolf create something that feels warm, sensual, and ridiculously easy to get lost in.

The instrumental grabbed me first. The saxophone is beautiful, the island-inspired vibes add plenty of flavor, and the rhythm has a danceable quality that feels so damn sexy.

SABRE matches the production beautifully with a vocal performance that feels free and hypnotic. I especially like the choppy chorus, which gives the song an extra bit of personality and makes certain moments stick in your head. Lyrically, the track explores that euphoric feeling of connecting deeply with someone and creating those spicy memories you don’t exactly forget.

Surprisingly written and recorded together in one session, “Deep End” feels as organic as it gets. Add Barbadian Juno-winning saxophonist Joseph Callender’s arrangements, and you have an Afro-bop that brings several corners of the musical world together.
