A major sales milestone gives Drake another reason to celebrate his impressive 2026 comeback.
Drake’s ICEMAN is officially eligible for 2× Platinum certification in the U.S., and that makes it the highest-selling hip-hop album of the year. It’s also one of the biggest-selling albums overall, which gives Drake another reason to take a victory lap.
The accomplishment is especially interesting when you remember that Drake took a semi-break in 2025. He did release $ome $exy $ongs 4 U with PARTYNEXTDOOR, but outside of that, he wasn’t exactly flooding the market. Then came three albums this year: HABIBTI, MAID OF HONOUR, and ICEMAN.
The other two albums had strong first-week numbers, but ICEMAN has proven to have considerably more staying power. That’s not surprising to me because I think the album is best experienced as a full project. Sure, songs like “Shabang,” “Janice STFU,” and “What Did I Miss?” gave it plenty of firepower, but the deeper cuts have also done some heavy lifting.
“Burning Bridges” and “Plot Twist” are perfect examples. Both songs gained traction later, showing that people were still digging through the album instead of abandoning it after the obvious hits.
Whatever you think of Drake, you have to acknowledge the run he’s having. He’s the comeback rapper of the year and arguably the best rapper of 2026. Don Toliver may challenge that claim if he drops again, though.
