Parris LaVon turns pain, ambition, and vulnerability into a powerful anthem about living life without hesitation.
Parris LaVon is one of those rappers who is incredibly easy to root for. Not only can he spit with the best of them, but he also raps with a purpose, usually filling his music with meaningful lyrics and genuine emotion. This past weekend, he returned with a new single called “FREE,” and honestly, it’s one of his most powerful songs yet.
The production on “FREE” knocks harder than Jehovah’s Witnesses, but there’s more happening underneath the surface. The beat carries a dramatic, almost cinematic quality that gives Parris LaVon plenty of room to let loose. He attacks it with a relentless flow and aggressive delivery, talking about seizing the moment, staying unflappable, and making sure his family and friends eat alongside him.
Then the song takes an unexpected emotional turn. Piano notes creep into the production and completely change the atmosphere, transforming the record into something much more touching. It’s a great transition because it reinforces the vulnerability underneath all that confidence.
That vulnerability is important because “FREE” reflects Parris LaVon’s outlook on life after losing his mother. Overall, there’s hunger, pain, confidence, and hope here, and Parris manages to bring all of those emotions together beautifully.
