We have a rebel in the hip-hop game, and his name is Nine Vicious. Over the past few weeks, he has taken aim at YSL, YVL, LAZER DIM 700, and probably others. On his single, “Over N Over,” he goes for the necks of those guys.
“Over N Over” features bass-heavy, high-octane production with sinister details that give the song the atmosphere of an ’80s horror movie. It sounds like something created for a car chase where nobody involved expects to survive. Nine Vicious meets that chaos with an unchained, aggressive performance, sounding like he recorded the track in the middle of an exorcism.
Lyrically, he talks about crashing out on his opps, stealing their women, and plenty of other incoherent shit that I’m going to need a certified YN pastor to decipher. His words may be difficult to follow, but the energy behind them isn’t. Every growl, shout, and unpredictable vocal shift adds to the madness.
There might be a catchy chorus hidden inside “Over N Over.” Unfortunately, nearly everything surrounding it feels too untamed to enjoy. Nine Vicious clearly wants to sound dangerous and uncontrollable. He succeeds, but the result sometimes feels more exhausting than exciting.
