AZ Chike is in a really good spot right now.
I am extremely high on AZ Chike. It feels like the perfect storm is forming for him to become one of the next Los Angeles rappers to break through in a major way. His momentum shifted after appearing on Kendrick Lamar’s “peekaboo” from GNX, where he introduced his unconventional energy to a much larger audience.
Now, it appears Kendrick is prepared to return the favor. A new announcement links AZ Chike and Kendrick Lamar to “No Rest for the Wicked,” which is scheduled to arrive September 18. Whether their next collaboration is a standalone song or part of the album’s final tracklist, Kendrick’s involvement would be an enormous addition to Chike’s rollout.
AZ Chike has already given listeners several reasons to look forward to the project. He recently released “Look Like My Mama” with Tyler, The Creator, an entertaining collaboration driven by playful chemistry and sharp back-and-forth rapping. Pharrell Williams has also been connected to the upcoming album, suggesting Chike may have even more major names waiting behind the curtain.
Kendrick remains the biggest possible grab. Their chemistry on “peekaboo” helped push Chike into a different level of visibility, and another record could introduce him to even more listeners.
Everything appears to be lining up for AZ Chike. Attention is growing, collaborations are getting bigger, and September 18 could be the day he officially leaves “next up” status behind.
