Yo, I like this s**t.
I truly believe we will get the best version of Quavo on his upcoming project, QRÖME LIFE. Why? Because one of the greatest producers ever will be part of it: Pharrell Williams. Last night, Quavo delivered another teaser from the album called “Backwards,” and I’m a fan.
Do you know who emerges as the biggest winner here? Jermaine Dupri. Surprisingly, he provides ad-libs throughout the track, sounding like Atlanta’s version of Diddy. I love the energy he adds. Pharrell also comes through with a bouncy, starry instrumental featuring tropical touches that create a mood fit for chilling and partying.
Quavo mixes melodic vocals with boastful raps, paying homage to Atlanta dancers who can do more for his team than Joki?. T.I. follows with an outstanding performance, attacking the production with a slippery flow and sounding like the slick veteran who rarely missed during his prime.
Despite people calling “Backwards” college football theme-song music, I think it is solid. Everyone involved brings something worthwhile, and the track carries plenty of hometown energy. The only part I could have done without was the “Welcome to Atlanta where you can f**k a dancer” part. It felt pointless as hell and slightly weakened an otherwise entertaining collaboration.

Quincy is the creator of Ratings Game Music. He loves writing about music, taking long walks on beaches, and spaghetti that fights him back.
