Wait—did Tinashe’s new project really just knock Queen Taylor’s project off the throne?
POPSTAR (Bonus Edition) has given Tinashe something else to celebrate during an important opening week.
The expanded album has reached No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes albums chart, replacing Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. Considering how aggressively Swift’s fans purchase music, removing one of her projects from the top position is no small accomplishment.
Tinashe added four alternate tracks to the original album: “Twentyfive Eight (Flip),” “Brainrot (Nick León Flip),” “Popstar (umru Flip),” and “Too Easy (Extended).” That brings the bonus edition to 20 songs. It is currently an iTunes exclusive, making the release especially useful for increasing paid album sales.
Those purchases arrive while POPSTAR is projected to earn approximately 20,000 equivalent units in its first week. If the estimate holds, Tinashe could surpass the opening of Aquarius and secure the largest Billboard 200 sales week of her career.
For an artist who spent years being labeled underrated, this is an encouraging sight. I mean, talent is talent, right? It will always find a way to break through… Especially when you’re dealing with a “popstar” like Tinashe.
