JONES captures the warmth of all-consuming love through soothing vocals and a gently rhythmic indie-soul backdrop.
“Pure” is the first word I associate with JONES. There’s something refreshing about her voice, the feelings she explores, and the production she gravitates toward. Her new single, “Come Up For Air,” brings those qualities together in a way that makes pressing play again feel almost automatic.
Serving as the title track from her forthcoming EP, the song blends indie soul with understated R&B and touches of hip-hop. The atmosphere is gentle, but the punchy drums provide enough rhythm to keep things from drifting too far away. I love that balance. You can relax into the music while still finding yourself moving along.
The lyrics explore an all-consuming love built on intimacy, affection, and the freedom of feeling completely comfortable with someone. JONES uses ocean imagery to describe a connection so deep that everything beyond it starts fading into the background. There’s a sweetness to how fully she wants to inhabit those moments.
Her vocals make that feeling even more convincing. She moves lightly across the instrumentation, delivering a soothing performance and an intoxicating melody that fit the backdrop beautifully.
Overall, “Come Up For Air” feels thoughtful, warm, and easy to enjoy. JONES gives the song enough bounce to stay engaging while letting its tenderness remain the main attraction. I’m definitely rocking with it.
