Free Nationals Recruits A$AP Rocky & Anderson .Paak For “Gangsta”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

It’s always a treat when Free Nationals drop new music. While they’ve occasionally appeared on tracks over the past few years, their last solo effort dates back to 2019. Today, the group returned with a brand-new single titled “Gangsta,” featuring the talents of A$AP Rocky and Anderson .Paak.

“Gangsta” presents a mix of random-ass lyrics that cover various topics. Anderson .Paak handles the hook, reflecting on the respect his family gained in the streets and how it influences his actions. Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky talks about everything from drinking Henny to embracing a pimp persona. While their themes may seem disparate, such diversity is often embraced in hip-hop, so oh well.

While the lyrics we get in this song may not be its strongest suit, the production truly shines. With exquisite, smooth vibes and fun drum patterns, the beat sets a laid-back tone. A$AP Rocky’s sly delivery complements the style of the music, while Anderson .Paak’s effortless vocals add to the overall chill atmosphere.

This song simply didn’t live up to the hype for me…
